I have the same! Bought it recently and was googling the quote which got me here...I think it's from Anton Chekhov's play
I saw the pencil case today. It spoke to me. I was just also googling the quote.
Apparently you can buy that pencil case at Ito Yokado in Japan. I also saw a student of mine with it today. She had no idea what it was about.
